Kano begins diphtheria vaccination campaign across five LGAs

The Kano State Government has begun a new diphtheria immunisation campaign across five local government areas as authorities intensify efforts to control the disease.
The campaign is taking place in Dala, Fagge, Gwale, Kumbotso and Ungoggo LGAs.

The affected wards include Gobirawa, Kofar Ruwa, Kwachiri, Rijiyar Lemo, Dorayi, Kabuga, Chiranchi, Naibawa, Fanshekara, Bachirawa, Gayawa, Rijiyar Zaki and Ungogo.
Health authorities particularly encouraged residents whose vaccination history is uncertain, as well as those whose last diphtheria vaccination was more than 10 years ago, to visit designated vaccination centres.

Officials said immunisation remains one of the most effective ways of preventing serious illness and limiting transmission within communities.
Parents and other residents were also urged to encourage family members to participate in the exercise.
Kano intensifies response to diphtheria
The latest vaccination drive follows earlier reports of diphtheria cases in parts of Kano.

In August, the state government appealed to the Federal Government for additional vaccines to support a wider immunisation programme.

Kano previously disputed reports that more than 50 children had died during the outbreak, while investigations confirmed at least two diphtheria-related deaths in Rano in earlier reporting.

The latest campaign is intended to increase protection in communities identified for targeted vaccination
