Hamzat says government experience makes him best choice for Lagos in 2027

Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has described himself as the best candidate to govern the state after the 2027 election, citing his years of experience in government and his knowledge of Lagos.

Hamzat, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, made the remarks during the 70th Harvest Anniversary and Thanksgiving Service of the Cherubim and Seraphim Society, Olorunsogo Parish, Ese-Ofin, Lagos, on Sunday.

He argued that understanding Lagos’ political history, institutions and communities would be important for whoever succeeds Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Hamzat said his experience across several roles in the Lagos State Government had prepared him for the governorship.

He previously served as Commissioner for Science and Technology and Commissioner for Works before becoming deputy governor.

Hamzat said he returned to Nigeria after then-Lagos Governor Bola Tinubu approached him during a visit to New York in 2005.

Since then, he said, his different government positions had allowed him to develop an extensive understanding of the state.

He also urged Lagos residents to scrutinise promises made by politicians as campaigning intensifies ahead of the 2027 elections.

The APC had earlier selected Hamzat as its Lagos governorship candidate, with influential party stakeholders including the Governance Advisory Council backing his candidacy during the party’s nomination process.
