BTS have made history by blasting to the top the US Billboard 100 singles chart with their new English song “Dynamite” – the first all-Korean act to do so.
Jimin, one of the band’s seven members, said “tears kept coming” and he “didn’t know what to say” when he found out. He also thanked their huge global legion of fans, known as ARMY, saying: “I’m out of my mind now but you guys made this [happen].”
The track, their first to be sung completely in English, reached 33.9 million US streams in its first week to debut at number one.
Even South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in has sent his congratulations, saying the boys, credited with helping to take K-Pop into the mainstream in recent years, had achieved a “splendid feat”.
