Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s eldest son, Maddox, has legally dropped “Pitt” from his surname following a ruling by a Los Angeles judge.

A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge approved the 25-year-old’s request on Monday, September 14, officially changing his legal name from Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie.

According to public court records, Maddox initially filed a petition requesting the legal name change on May 28, 2026.

Maddox is the eldest of the six children shared by Jolie and Pitt, who ended their relationship in 2016.

The former couple’s other children are Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne.

Maddox is not the first of the children to remove or seek to remove Pitt from their surname.

In August 2024, Shiloh legally changed her name from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Jolie after filing the request on her 18th birthday.

Vivienne has also taken steps to change her legal surname to Jolie. She filed a petition in July 2026, citing personal reasons, with a hearing scheduled for November 2.

Zahara has publicly used the name Zahara Marley Jolie and has also filed paperwork seeking to formally remove Pitt from her surname, with a hearing scheduled for September 28.

The latest court decision means Maddox’s legal surname is now officially Jolie.
