Five Nigerians extradited from South Africa face up to 100 years in US prison
Five Nigerians extradited from South Africa to the United States are facing federal charges connected to an alleged internet fraud and money-laundering operation.
The defendants are Perry Osagiede, 57; Franklyn Edosa Osagiede, 42; Osariemen Eric Clement, 40; Collins Owhofasa Otughwor, 42; and Musa Mudashiru, 38.
They were extradited from South Africa to the United States on September 11, 2026.
US prosecutors allege that the defendants were involved in a network that used internet-based fraud schemes, including romance scams and advance-fee fraud, to target victims.
The suspects are also alleged to have used fake identities and other methods as part of the operation.
According to reports, the charges against the five defendants carry a combined maximum potential sentence of up to 100 years in prison if they are convicted.
They are expected to face proceedings before US District Judge Michael Shipp in federal court in Trenton, New Jersey.
The allegations remain subject to determination by the court, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
