Zamfara governor tells Wike to join APC if he wants to back Tinubu
Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has told FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to formally join the All Progressives Congress if he wants to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Lawal made the remarks during an interview with Channels Television on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
He said Wike should make his political allegiance clear and argued that it was inconsistent to support Tinubu for president while backing candidates from other parties in governorship and legislative elections.
Wike has repeatedly said his Rainbow Coalition is designed specifically to mobilise support for Tinubu across party lines and does not require politicians to abandon their parties.
He has also maintained that his support for Tinubu does not automatically extend to APC candidates in every other contest.
APC governors, however, have said they will support APC candidates at all levels and have objected to political arrangements they believe could weaken the party.
Lawal said he intends to raise the issue with Tinubu and maintained that Wike should clearly define whether he is politically inside or outside the APC.
The disagreement is the latest development in the dispute surrounding Wike’s Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
