PDP dissolves Kano State Working Committee, appoints caretaker leadership
The Peoples Democratic Party has dissolved its State Working Committee in Kano State as part of ongoing efforts to reorganise and reconcile the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The dissolution took effect immediately following a letter dated September 24, signed by PDP National Organising Secretary Umar Bature.
The party said the decision applies specifically to the Kano State Working Committee, while ward and local government executives remain in office.
Under the new arrangement, the PDP North-West Caretaker Committee will oversee the party’s affairs in Kano pending the emergence of a new state leadership.
Former state chairman Bello Gambo Bichi said he accepted the decision in the interest of party unity.
According to Bichi, the dissolution formed part of wider reconciliation efforts within the Kano PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said former governorship candidate Muhammad Bello Dalhatu had also stepped aside for Muhammad Sani Abacha.
The PDP subsequently conducted a replacement process that resulted in Abacha emerging as its Kano governorship candidate.
Bichi said accepting the dissolution was part of efforts to resolve internal disagreements and strengthen the party’s chances in the state.
