Ondo govt denies approving N8,000 blood test for secondary school students
The Ondo State Government has denied authorising a reported blood-testing exercise at CAC Adu Memorial Grammar School, Oke-Aro, Akure, in which students were allegedly asked to pay N8,000.
The state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said it neither approved nor directed the exercise and stressed that school principals are not permitted to impose such charges without approval from the appropriate authorities.
The ministry said it had received reports that students were being asked to pay N8,000 for the test but maintained that no state policy requires public school students to make such a payment.
It also said it had been informed of the reported involvement of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and that the circumstances surrounding the exercise were being investigated.
The ministry warned principals and school administrators against unauthorised activities and financial collections that could undermine confidence in the public education system.
Parents, guardians and students were encouraged to report irregular financial demands or other unauthorised activities in schools.
The ministry added that disciplinary or legal measures could follow if the allegations are established against any official.
