Tuchel says England can build on World Cup spirit ahead of Euro 2028

England manager Thomas Tuchel says his team can build on the unity and mentality developed during the 2026 FIFA World Cup as attention turns to future competitions, including Euro 2028.

Tuchel made the remarks at Wembley after naming a 27-man squad for England’s upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures.

England reached the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup before suffering a late defeat to Argentina, and Tuchel said the experience had provided a strong foundation rather than forcing the team to begin again.

The German coach said England’s longer-term objective is to win Euro 2028, which will be staged across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer and Real Madrid defender Trent Alexander-Arnold are among the players recalled after missing out on England’s World Cup squad.

Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha, Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott and Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite have also been included as Tuchel continues to assess options for the national team.

Several World Cup players, including John Stones, Djed Spence, Dan Burn, Jordan Henderson and Dean Henderson, are unavailable because of injury.

England begin the new Nations League campaign against world champions Spain at Wembley on September 26.

Tuchel said the match would provide an opportunity for his side to measure its progress against one of international football’s strongest teams.

England are also scheduled to face the Czech Republic and Croatia during the international window.
