Alaafin pledges support for school infrastructure, education programmes in Oyo
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has pledged support for infrastructure and educational programmes aimed at improving schools across Oyo town.
The monarch made the commitment during a fundraising and thanksgiving ceremony organised by the 1972–1976 graduating class of Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo.
Alaafin urges alumni to support schools
Oba Owoade praised the old students for investing in the institution that contributed to their development.
He said responsibility for maintaining and improving schools should not rest exclusively with government and encouraged alumni groups to continue supporting educational development.
The Alaafin also pledged his support for programmes aimed at improving standards at Olivet Baptist High School and other schools across Oyo town.
Alumni spend nearly N10m on classrooms
The president of the school’s 1972–1976 set, Adeoye Mapederun, said the alumni had spent slightly below N10 million renovating a block containing three classrooms.
According to him, the classrooms had previously deteriorated significantly, with missing roofing, windows, blackboards and other facilities.
The renovation included repairs and installation of facilities such as ceiling fans to improve the learning environment.
Mapederun said the group planned further interventions and was seeking funds for additional projects.
Chief Wale Babalakin also called for stronger cooperation among different generations of the school’s old students as discussions continue over how alumni can play a bigger role in managing and developing the institution.
