Man brought from Turkey to UK, arrested over 2020 killings of Nigerian, another
British police have arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of murder after he was detained in Turkey and returned to England in connection with the fatal shooting of two men in Manchester more than six years ago.
The arrest relates to the deaths of Abayomi “Junior” Ajose, 36, and Cheriff Tall, 21, who were shot during a gathering in Moss Side in the early hours of June 21, 2020.
Ajose, a father of three who was originally from Nigeria, had reportedly stepped in during a confrontation before he was shot.
Suspect detained in Turkey
Greater Manchester Police said the unnamed 36-year-old suspect was detained in Turkey before being transported back to England on Saturday, October 10.
Police officers met him at Stansted Airport, and he remains in custody on suspicion of murder.
The force has not publicly identified the suspect.
The shootings occurred at a gathering in a car park off Caythorpe Street in Moss Side, where police estimate between 300 and 400 people were present.
Ajose and Tall died after being shot during the incident.
Police renew appeal six years after killings
Greater Manchester Police said investigators have spent the past six years carrying out warrants, examining seized electronic devices and pursuing information linked to the killings.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Higginson described the latest arrest as an important development but stressed that the investigation was not over.
Police believe witnesses who were at the gathering may still hold information that could assist investigators.
A £50,000 reward remains available for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of those responsible.
The arrested man has not been convicted and remains a suspect while the investigation continues.
