Deji Adeyanju granted bail

Political activist, Deji Adeyanju, who was rearraigned before a Wuse magistrate court on Tuesday December 4th, has been granted bail.

Adeyanju, who was arrested on November 28th while leading a protest in Abuja, was released on Monday December 3rd from the federal prison in Keffi after meeting his bail condition but was re-arrested by a police team waiting around the prison.

He was rearraigned in court by the police on Tuesday December 4th for Cyber Stalking, Inciting Disturbance, and Criminal Defamation.

This morning, the court granted him bail.

Kaduna begins distribution of N3.4bn worth of grains to vulnerable residents

Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna, has flagged off the second phase of the distribution of food items to vulnerable residents in the state.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony on Monday in Kaduna, Sani said N3.4 billion worth of rice and maize will be distributed.

The governor said N11.4 billion worth of palliatives will be disbursed to households, businesses, and workers in the state to alleviate their suffering.

“We shall continue to take all necessary measures to bring succour to the poor and vulnerable in our state,” the governor said.

“In the next two months, we shall commence the implementation of the third phase of our palliatives programme. It’s a full package.

“Today we are commencing the distribution of 128 trucks of rice and maize worth N3.4 billion to the poor, vulnerable, and underserved citizens of Kaduna State.

“We are targeting 200,000 households, approximately 1,000,000 persons.”

The governor said the state government has commenced the release of grants to 7,500 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

He said the businesses are receiving between N100,000 and N1 million, depending on the size of the enterprise.

Sani said N4.2 billion has been earmarked for the distribution of cash grants, fertilizer, and farm inputs to smallholder farmers, MSMESs, persons with disabilities, internally displaced persons (IDPs), orphans, market women, and youths.

He added that N3.3 billion has been released for the payment of pensions and gratuities, as well as death benefits to families of deceased civil servants.

The governor said 9,800 poor and vulnerable households, including over 1,000 persons with disabilities, have begun receiving N50,000 each.

He also unveiled N500 million revolving loan scheme for civil servants in the state, noting that some of them have begun receiving money.

Sani warned government officials against diverting the palliatives, adding that those found culpable would be punished.

Protest rocks Delta as Okada riders clash with task force in Asaba

Two persons have been reported killed in Asaba, the Delta state capital, following a dispute between commercial motorcyclists, popularly called Okada riders, and members of a task force.

On Monday, some motorcyclists blocked the Okpanam road axis, Midwifery area of Asaba, to protest the killings.

In a viral video on X, the protesters were seen blocking roads, as the police officers deployed to the location opened fire.

Commenting on the incident, Bright Edafe, police spokesperson in the state, in a post on X, said the protest took place on Monday morning.

Edafe said the protesters had a dispute with the task force, adding that the ensuing kerfuffle led to the death of two persons.

“There was a violent protest this morning by Okada riders who had an issue last night with the state task force that led to the death of two persons,” he said.

“They mobilized in their numbers this morning destroying properties and beating people, hence our men were deployed to control the situation before it turned into something else.”

Last week, 16 army personnel who were on a peacekeeping mission, were killed in Okuoma community, Bomadi LGA of Delta state.

Aisha Achimugu emerges winner of Champion Newspapers’ 2023 Heart of Gold Award

Mrs (Dr) Aisha Achimugu, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, CEO of Felak Concept Group, has emerged the winner of Champion Newspapers’ 2023 Heart of Gold Award in recognition of her extraordinary philanthropy targeted at less privileged members of the Nigerian society.


The Group Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief, Champion Newspapers Limited, Dr Mrs Nwadiuto Iheakanwa, who disclosed this on Sunday said the multi talented recipient, has accepted the prestigious award and upbeat about the formal conferment of the honour, alongside other winners slated for the Convention Centre at Eko Hotels and Suites Victoria Island, Lagos, on Saturday May 25, 2024.


Prominent Nigerians and institutions who have accepted the Champion Newspapers 2023 awards and confirmed their participation include, Mr Oliver Alawuba, Group Managing Director/CEO UBA Plc, Man of the Year; Dr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, GMD/CEO Zenith Bank Plc, Banker of the Year; Prof. Charles Soludo, Executive Governor of Anambra State, Governor of the Year; High Chief Michael Onuoha, CEO Ailes Group NG, Most Innovative Brand CEO of the Year and Dr Jayne Onwumere, President/CEO PWAN Group, Most Outstanding Real Estate Company of the Year amongst others.

Mrs. (Dr.) Achimugu, OFR, is also the Chairman, Bluewave Exploration and Production Limited and was at the forefront of the initiative for the actualization and development of a Deep-Sea Port in South-South, Nigeria, a first for a first female owned company.


Born on the 22nd January 1974 to Capt. J.E. A & Mrs. Adole (Rtd.) Aisha attended Federal Government Girls Science School, Kuje, Abuja before proceeding to the University of Jos, Nigeria where she acquired a B.Sc. in Accountancy in 1998.


The quest for further learning took her to University of Belize where she attained a Masters Degree in Business Management and later awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree by the Commonwealth University, Belize.


Aisha has also received a certificate for Advanced Leadership Programme in Corporate Governance and Administration by Moller Institute College, University of Cambridge and a certificate of Legislative Engagement on Petroleum Industry Bill.
