The Malaysian Immigration Department busted the largest online scam syndicate believed to be run by Chinese nationals in Cyberjaya, Malaysia.

According to Immigration Department, nearly 1,000 people were arrested. Videos shared online showed them jumping off the ledge of the Wisma Mustapha Kamal office building to escape the raid.

The raid was was part of an operation against an online scam syndicate run by Chinese nationals. Authorities confiscated 8,230 mobile phones, 174 laptops and 787 computers.

“During the raid, the Chinese nationals were carrying out their activities. Some of them attempted to attack immigration officers, with some 100 people managing to escape,” said immigration director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud.

It is believed that the syndicate had been operating for six months from an office which it rented for RM360,000 a month. He said the office was used as its call centre, targeting victims in China using Wechat Pay or Chinese banks for their transactions.
