Court orders man who stole Qur’an to sweep mosque for 30 days

A Sharia court in Fagge, Kano, has ordered one Halifa Abdullahi to sweep a mosque after he was found guilty of stealing the Holy Qur’an.

Abdullahi, a resident of Yola quarters in Kano metropolis, had broken into a mosque at Tudun Maliki area of the state, on Sunday, and carted away eight copies of the Holy Qur’an.

The suspect was apprehended by security guards of the mosque.

He was subsequently handed over to police at ‘Filin Hockey’ division, and charged to the Islamic Shariah court yesterday at Yan Allo, Fagge.

Abdullahi pleaded guilty to the offence after Abdul Wada, the police prosecutor, read the charges against him.

In his judgment, Bello Musa-Khalid, the presiding judge, ordered Abdullahi to sweep the Fagge Juma’at mosque for 30 days as punishment.

The mosque is considered to be the biggest in metropolitan Kano in terms of landmass.
