Mildred Okwo dismisses rumoured crisis in Rita Dominic’s marriage

Published

Mildred Okwo, the Nigerian filmmaker, has dismissed a rumour of crisis in Rita Dominic‘s marriage to Fidelis Anosike.

Dominic and Fidelis Anosike, the publisher of Daily Times Newspaper and founder of Folio Media Group, tied the knot in April.

The wedding ceremony, which was the talk of the town in Imo state, took place in Mbaise, the film star’s hometown.

It was attended by top figures and the crème de la crème of Nollywood including Joke Silva, Chioma Akpotha, Uche Jombo, and Kate Henshaw, among others.

A few weeks after the wedding, there was a rumour that the union is in crisis over alleged infidelity by Anosike.

A blog had claimed the publisher “allegedly had an affair with two of Dominic’s best friends who graced her traditional wedding.”

On Thursday, a Twitter user retweeted the unverified claim, which has continued to circulate on social media.

Responding to the tweet, Okwo slammed the user for spreading “lies about people”.

The filmmaker, who is very close to Dominic, wondered why people circulate content capable of attracting defamation lawsuits.

5 fun ways to celebrate workers’ day in Nigeria

Today, May 1, 2024, Nigeria joins the global celebration of Workers’ Day!

This public holiday is a dedicated time to honour the contributions of hardworking people across the country. It’s a day to recognise the value of labour and the dedication of those who keep the wheels of the nation turning.

But Workers’ Day isn’t just about acknowledging hard work; it’s also about celebrating it. After a year of dedication and perseverance, Nigerian workers deserve a day of rest, relaxation, and enjoyment. So, put down your work tools, silence those ringing phones, and get ready to celebrate.

Here are five exciting ways Nigerian workers can make the most of their Workers’ Day holiday.

Nigeria has stunning natural scenery, from the lush rainforests of the south to the breathtaking mountains of the north. Workers’ Day is the perfect opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and reconnect with nature.

Consider a day trip to a nearby national park, like Yankari Game Reserve, Cross River National Park or Lekki Conservation Centre (LCC). Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the natural world, go for a hike, or simply relax by a scenic lake.

Sometimes, the best way to recharge is with a relaxing staycation. Treat yourself to a luxurious hotel stay in your own city. Pamper yourself with spa treatments, enjoy delicious meals you don’t have to cook and take advantage of hotel amenities like swimming pools and fitness centres. It’s a chance to unwind, de-stress, and recharge without the hassle of travelling far.

Workers’ Day is a celebration of your fellow workers too. Gather your colleagues, friends, and family for a fun-filled picnic in the park. Pack delicious local delicacies, some refreshing drinks, and some games or activities to keep everyone entertained. This is a fantastic opportunity to bond with your work crew outside the office environment and create lasting memories.

Dedicate your Workers’ Day to exploring the rich heritage of your own city or venture to a new location. Visit historical landmarks, museums, or cultural centres. Immerse yourself in local art, music, and dance.

The daily grind can sometimes leave us neglecting the people who matter most. Workers’ Day is the perfect chance to reconnect with loved ones. Plan a visit with family members you haven’t seen in a while, organise a game night with friends, or simply enjoy a relaxing meal together. Cherish the moments with the people who bring joy and support to your life.

Workers’ Day is a day to celebrate YOU.

You’ve worked hard, persevered through challenges, and contributed to the success of your organisation. Now, it’s time to take a break, have some fun, and recharge your batteries. Choose an activity that sparks your joy and allows you to unwind and celebrate your achievements.

Here’s to a happy and well-deserved Workers’ Day for all Nigerian workers!

The body of Precious Ofurum, the sound engineer who died in the boat mishap that also claimed the life of Junior Pope, has been exhumed for burial in Rivers state.

Pope and four other crew members died on April 10 when their boat capsized in the River Niger, Asaba, Delta state. They were traveling to a movie location.

The sound engineer was earlier buried at the river bank because his family could not meet the requirements to transport him back home.

Last month, Precious’ mum pleaded with Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers, to assist in bringing her son’s body back home for a proper burial.

She said her son’s spirit is “restless” and fears that she will die if she does not lay eyes on him.

In a recent video shared on Instagram by Stanley Nwoke, the movie producer, divers can be seen preparing the remains of the late sound engineer inside a white coffin for the trip to Rivers.

The filmmaker said Precious’ family, alongside members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), attended his remains’ exhumation on Tuesday.

Stanley also shared another video of the sound engineer laid to rest in his hometown in Rivers.

On April 27, Pope’s family announced the details of his funeral arrangements.

They disclosed that the actor’s final rites will be held on May 17.

Confirming the abduction to newsmen on Monday, Bright Edafe, the Delta police spokesperson, said the law enforcement agency is investigating the matter.

The police spokesperson said the command is working to determine if there are any hidden motives behind the abduction.

“We are investigating. You know sometimes you may not know what transpired that led to that. We are looking into it to see if there are any underlying issue that could have led to it for now,” Edafe said.
