Rihanna Breaks Records To Become The Youngest Self-Made Billionaire – See Her Current Networth

Published

on

Musician turned business mogul, Rihanna has just become America’s youngest self-made billionaire with $1.7 billion.

In the past year, Forbes has recorded 87 less billionaires than it did in 2020. With a global pandemic, economic setbacks, and inflation across the globe, it has been a hard year for a lot of people, some of the 1% included.

Although it has been tough, 236 have managed to join the ranks of billionaires across the world. Among the list is the founder and CEO of Fenty Beauty, a cosmetic company.

In April of this year, Rihanna made her debut on the Forbes annual billionaires list. She has had an interesting career from humble beginnings to stardom, then nearly going bankrupt to increasing her net worth at that time by 340% now. Starting her career in 2003 at around 15 years old, Rihanna has been working for 19 years.

Rising from near bankruptcy to billionaire status

  • In 2007, she had a net worth close to $50 million. But only two years after, she faced bankruptcy. Business Insider reported that Rihanna started 2009 with $11 million in cash and ended the year with $2 million.
  • Her fall in income was attributed to poor advice from her ex-accountant who she later sued for mismanaging funds, stealing large amounts of profits, and not properly filing taxes, according to the HuffPost. Rihanna went on to win the lawsuit against Berdon LLP in 2012, coming out on top with a $10 million settlement.
  • In recent years, Rihanna’s net worth has grown to an estimated $1.7 billion mostly because of her undertakings outside of music. Rihanna has not released new music in six years or gone on any major tours. Her Fenty Beauty cosmetics line and the Savage X Fenty lingerie business had a hand in placing her at 1,729 on the Forbes list.
  • What helped the company grow so fast besides the founder’s popularity and fanbase was its products that catered to an undervalued market – black, indigenous, and people of colour whose skin tones are not always considered by other brands.

Teni under fire for prostrating for IBD Dende (Video)

Teni Apata, the Nigerian singer, has been criticised for her gesture towards Ibrahim Egungbohun, the businessman fondly called IBD Dende, on a plane.

On Friday, the songstress took to X to share a video of herself boarding the same aircraft with IBD Dende.

Upon citing the socialite, Teni prostrated before IBD Dende. She then raised her hands while praising the businessman.

The socialite, however, attempted to prevent Temi from prostrating as he rose to hug the overjoyous singer instead.

The video however triggered a wave of backlash on X where several users accused the singer of “hypocrisy”.

Some users also revisited the incident that took place in October 2022 when Teni was conferred with the member order of the Niger (MON) award at the National Honours Award ceremony.

The singer walked towards Muhammadu Buhari, the then president, and collected her award without any form of genuflection or handshake.

Some social media users had criticised her over what they described as her “discourteous demeanour” before the president.

The latest video has also continued to trigger a chorus of condemnation against the singer.

“We all know what we are doing…. Teni disrespected Buhari like she stands with the masses only to prostrate before IBD Dende,” a user wrote.

“The Teni refused to greet Buhari because he was a bad leader or for whatever reason, is now lying down for IBD Dende. Na wa ooo,” another user wrote.

The mother of Goodnews ‘Gnewzy’ Emuemu, the fast-rising Nigerian singer recently abducted, has pleaded with the kidnappers to free her son.

Gnewzy was abducted along Eklat road in Ughelli, Delta state while heading home from a show.

Eric Many Records, the artiste’s music label, confirmed the abduction, saying Obas9ice, his manager, “narrowly escaped”.

The abductors were said to have contacted Dilly Umenyiora, the record label’s CEO, via mail demanding a $200,000 ransom.

In a now-viral video shared by Obas9ice, Gnewzy’s mum can be seen crying and appealing to his son’s abductors to free him.

The woman lamented that the singer is her only son and should not be hurt.

“I beg. Na the only child wey I get o. I beg o. Make una free this boy for me. I beg. Make dem release my pikin. Oh God make una try release this pikin for me. I beg. Na the only son wey I get. I no get any other one,” she said in Pidgin.

Bright Edafe, the Delta police spokesperson, earlier said that the law enforcement agency is investigating the matter.

The police spokesperson said the command is working to determine if there are any hidden motives behind the abduction.

“We are investigating. You know sometimes you may not know what transpired that led to that. We are looking into it to see if there are any underlying issue that could have led to it for now,” Edafe said.

“It was reported the fast rising singer was abducted.”
