Nollywood producer, Seun Egbegbe regains freedom after three years in prison
Nollywood producer, Olajide Kareem, aka Seun Egbegbe has regained his freedom after spending roughly three years and six months in custody.
The filmmaker was incarcerated on February 10, 2017, after obtaining money by false pretence from no fewer than 40 bureaus de change operators in different parts of Lagos from 2015 to 2017.
Egbegbe was alleged to have swindled the BDC operators out of money by claiming that he had naira to change into foreign currencies and vice versa.
He was arraigned by the police for a series of frauds involving N39,098,100, $90,000 and £12,550.
Egbegbe alongside one Oyekan Ayomide were first arraigned on February 10, 2017, before Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo, on 36 counts bordering on advance fee fraud.
The charge sheet was subsequently amended twice, with the counts eventually increased to 40 and three other defendants – Lawal Kareem, Olalekan Yusuf and Muyideen Shoyombo – added.
The prosecuting counsel for the police, Innocent Anyigor, said Egbegbe and the other defendants acted contrary to Section 8 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act 2006 and were liable to be punished under Section 1(3) of the same Act.
Egbegbe was set free yesterday 11th October 2022.
Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo declared that 43 of the 44 Count charges were crumbled because of a lack of witnesses to substantiate their claims.
The Judge also said that the prosecuting team did not produce evidence, to be backed with witnesses on Counts 4, 19 and 21.
On the issue that police tampered with the money recovered from the suspects, Justice Oguntoyinbo ruled that all the money recovered from Egbegbe as evidence should be returned to him.

Teni under fire for prostrating for IBD Dende (Video)
Teni Apata, the Nigerian singer, has been criticised for her gesture towards Ibrahim Egungbohun, the businessman fondly called IBD Dende, on a plane.
On Friday, the songstress took to X to share a video of herself boarding the same aircraft with IBD Dende.
Upon citing the socialite, Teni prostrated before IBD Dende. She then raised her hands while praising the businessman.
The socialite, however, attempted to prevent Temi from prostrating as he rose to hug the overjoyous singer instead.
The video however triggered a wave of backlash on X where several users accused the singer of “hypocrisy”.
Some users also revisited the incident that took place in October 2022 when Teni was conferred with the member order of the Niger (MON) award at the National Honours Award ceremony.
The singer walked towards Muhammadu Buhari, the then president, and collected her award without any form of genuflection or handshake.
Some social media users had criticised her over what they described as her “discourteous demeanour” before the president.
The latest video has also continued to trigger a chorus of condemnation against the singer.
“We all know what we are doing…. Teni disrespected Buhari like she stands with the masses only to prostrate before IBD Dende,” a user wrote.
“The Teni refused to greet Buhari because he was a bad leader or for whatever reason, is now lying down for IBD Dende. Na wa ooo,” another user wrote.
Here is what some users had to say below:
We all know what we are doing…. Teni disrespected Buhari like she stands with the masses only to prostrate before IBD Dende. The entertainment industry colludes with those holding the country back! Fisayo must be sad right now. https://t.co/IWlqmHcfIV

Is this the same Teni that refused to shake 🤝 hands with Buhari in 2022? Falling down like a pig 🐖 before IBD Dende that has been exposed as the greatest smuggler in Nigeria? Did she even have to video it and post here? Fisayo Soyombo, a youth like u, will be so discouraged https://t.co/s3a0NWNytd

Teni can bow down to kiss the floor for IBD Dende while disrespecting Buhari. You guys are surprised cuz you're missing the point: she's not against corruption if it's her "faves" involved in the largesse.

The case of #Teni the entertainer seen prostrating face down before #IBD #Dende on a plane is truly nauseating. To think that this was the same lady who displayed an act tantamount to showing disdain for the then president Buhari, makes me tongue tied. Further questioning pic.twitter.com/7cBzQnY2Y7

What was Buhari's offence? pic.twitter.com/RU2J1rjH1I
When Teni snubbed Buhari during her award presentation, the country jumped for joy thinking she was protesting against the hardship in the country. “She’s on the side of the people”😂

‘Release my only child’ — mother of singer Gnewzy begs abductors
The mother of Goodnews ‘Gnewzy’ Emuemu, the fast-rising Nigerian singer recently abducted, has pleaded with the kidnappers to free her son.
Gnewzy was abducted along Eklat road in Ughelli, Delta state while heading home from a show.
Eric Many Records, the artiste’s music label, confirmed the abduction, saying Obas9ice, his manager, “narrowly escaped”.
The abductors were said to have contacted Dilly Umenyiora, the record label’s CEO, via mail demanding a $200,000 ransom.
In a now-viral video shared by Obas9ice, Gnewzy’s mum can be seen crying and appealing to his son’s abductors to free him.
The woman lamented that the singer is her only son and should not be hurt.
“I beg. Na the only child wey I get o. I beg o. Make una free this boy for me. I beg. Make dem release my pikin. Oh God make una try release this pikin for me. I beg. Na the only son wey I get. I no get any other one,” she said in Pidgin.
Bright Edafe, the Delta police spokesperson, earlier said that the law enforcement agency is investigating the matter.
The police spokesperson said the command is working to determine if there are any hidden motives behind the abduction.
“We are investigating. You know sometimes you may not know what transpired that led to that. We are looking into it to see if there are any underlying issue that could have led to it for now,” Edafe said.
“It was reported the fast rising singer was abducted.”
