Naira Marley stands with Sanwo-Olu for second term
Street sensation Naira Marley has declared Governor of Lagos State Babajie Sanwo-Olu as his choice in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections.
Naira Marley, in the late hours of Wednesday, March 15, took to an Instagram live video to express himself and declare his support for Sanwo-Olu.
The ‘Soapy’ crooner claimed that Sanwo-Olu is the best man for the job. He also noted that there had been significant development in infrastructure and other aspects of the state, and this could be publicly verified.
Drumming his point home, Naira Marley noted that for the continuity and stability of Lagos, the state needs an experienced man like Sanwo-Olu, who is already knowledgeable based on what he has done so far in the state.

He said he is not a supporter of any political party, but he believes Sanwo-Olu has been exceptional while clarifying that this wasn’t any form of promotional deal but his choice.
“I’m not (for the) All Progressives Congress, I’m not (for the) Peoples Democratic Party, I’m not (for the) Labour Party…but where Lagos is going right now, we don’t need to start testing at all. I think Sanwo-Olu is the right person for the job. This is not a paid promo or nothing. He has achieved a lot, he also has experience,” he said.
The singer, who is known for many controversial stories, said that as a Nigerian, he could not be silenced in his choice, while anticipating the regular backlash that comes with declaring one’s political choice as a celebrity.

Funke Akindele’s ‘Jenifa’ to return with new film in December
Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Funke Akindele has announced that her upcoming film, Everybody Loves Jenifa, a spinoff from the Jenifa franchise will premiere in December.
Akindele wrote, “Been long you saw Jenifa!!!!” on Instagram on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.
While a December premiere is confirmed, details on the film remain unknown. However, the new title, Everybody Loves Jenifa, suggests a potential return to the core elements that have made the franchise popular. With Akindele leading the creative team, viewers can anticipate the return of familiar characters and humorous storylines.
The sitcom, Jenifa’s Diary has been a major Nigerian television show since its debut in 2015. The series centres around the main character played by Akindele, and has featured Folarin “Falz” Falana, Lolo, Juliana Olayode, Lota Chukwu, Paschaline Alex Okoli, and late Aderounmu Adejumoke.
It has also had spin-offs and sequels like Aiyetoro Town (2019), which is set in Jenifa’s village, and Jenifa on Lockdown (2021).
Akindele played Jenifa in the first film in the franchise, Jenifa (2008), a village girl who travelled to the city in pursuit of fortune. Muhydeen S. Ayinde directed the movie.
The movie was nominated for four Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2009 including, Best Original Soundtrack, Best Actress in a Supporting Role, and Best Nigerian Film. For her performance in this movie, Akindele took home the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Why I don’t promote nudity in my skits – Layi Wasabi
Layi Wasabi, the Nigerian skit maker, has revealed why he avoids promoting nudity in his content.
In a recent interview with BBC Pidgin, Wasabi said his comedic style does not rely on nudity because he believes comedy should come from good storytelling.
He said he does not judge his colleagues who incorporate nudity into their work, adding that he focuses on what appeals to him.
“Di kain skit wey I dey do no need naked women but I no go judge anybody. But me wetin appeal to me na hin I dey do,” he said in Pidgin English.
“Comedy na wetin you fit do effortlessly, and if you tell your story well well, you fit make people laugh you no need to dey involve women wey dey naked.”

Nollywood actor, Zulu Adigwe is dead
The Nigerian movie industry has again been thrown into mourning after the news of the death of another veteran Nollywood actor, Zulu Adigwe, surfaced on social media on Tuesday.
Adigwe’s death was announced by a movie producer, Stanley Nwoko, in a post on his Instagram page .
Mourning the actor, Nwoko wrote, “Rest in peace, good actor.”
Adigwe’s death is coming two weeks after Junior Pope and three other Nollywood actors died in a boat accident in Anam River.
The actors were said to be on their way to a location when the incident occurred.
Adigwe gained recognition primarily for portraying fatherly characters in Nollywood films.
His breakthrough role came as Mr. B in the popular sitcom “Basi and Company.”
