Mohbad’s cousin debunks breaking singer’s neck during burial

Darosha Losobeh, a cousin of Mohbad, denies breaking the singer’s neck during his initial burial.

Mohbad died on September 12 under questionable circumstances and was buried the following day.

Allegations surfaced on social media that Losobeh broke the late singer’s neck during the process.

The claims followed a viral video showing Mohbad’s neck appearing to be bent at an unnatural angle in his coffin.

The video in question captured a moment from the funeral proceedings where Mohbad’s body was laid to rest.

The unusual position of his neck in the coffin sparked outrage on social media, with many criticising the family.

In response, Losobeh took to his Instagram Story on Saturday to clarify the situation.

He explained that he took responsibility for arranging the coffin and ambulance transportation for Mohbad’s body.

He claimed to have been unaware that the coffin was too small to accommodate Mohbad’s full stature.

Losobeh also recounted the events leading up to the burial.

He said the family was informed about the lack of space at a mortuary in Ikorodu.

He said they decided to hire an ambulance and coffin to temporarily store Mohbad’s body until morning when they could transport it to the designated burial site.

Losobeh said the family, except Mohbad’s mum, saw the body in the ambulance before it left for the burial ground.

He said no one raised any concerns about the position of Mohbad’s neck until the matter surfaced online.

“I did not go close to the ambulance because I was in shock. I did not know of his neck until I saw it online, and that saddened me,” the cousin added.

The Police Command in Ebonyi, says the explosion that claimed the lives of a couple, Mr and Mrs George Onuabuchi in Abakaliki, Ebonyi’s capital was from a gas cylinder and not from an inverter battery.

DSP Joshua Ukandu, spokesman of the Command in the state told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Thursday that the incident occurred on August 25. Ukandu said that a preliminary investigation showed that the couple died from a gas explosion.

“It happened on the waterworks axis in Abakaliki on August 25. The residents living around the scene called the attention of our personnel who visited the place but the couple has already been taken to hospital.

“It’s very unfortunate that both finally died. The wife, Chioma died sometime in August while the husband died this month, September.

“We gathered that the wife was a younger sister to the popular Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Patoranking.

“There are no much details because the victims could not survive to tell the story. So, what killed them was gas and not inverter explosion,” the police spokesman explained.

Also speaking with NAN one of the relatives who refused to mention his name described the incident as bad for the family.

“They were young couple. They had only a child, a three-year-old son.

“Please I have more to say. I cannot say more than this. They have gone,” the relative said.

Ibraheem Abdulhameed, the Islamic singer popularly known as Labaeka, has resigned as special assistant on artiste matters to Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Kwara governor.

In a letter shared on his Instagram page on Thursday, the singer cited “lack of clear duties and opportunities to perform my responsibilities” as reasons for his resignation.

Labaeka was appointed in January 2023 but said he had been unable to achieve his goals due to unclear schedules and circumstances.

The singer requested that his salary be halted immediately, adding that “as an Islamic cleric, it goes against my beliefs to take a salary for doing nothing”.

“I am writing this letter with all sense of humility and gratitude for giving me the opportunity to serve as the Special Assistant, Artiste, in your cabinet,” the letter reads.

“Having served in this capacity for a period of 1 year and 7 months, I wish to respectfully tender my resignation.

“Your Excellency, as you may recall, I was offered an appointment to serve as your Special Assistant, Artist, on 6th January 2023. I accepted the offer because I saw it as a call to service and an opportunity to showcase my talents.

“Regrettably, I have not been able to achieve any of these things. Aside from the fact that I don’t have a specific schedule of duty, circumstances have not availed me the opportunity to perform my responsibilities maximally.

“Since my appointment is based on public trust, I cannot continue to break that trust by taking a salary, for doing nothing.

“As an Islamic cleric. it is against my beliefs, and I haven’t been at peace with myself. So, I want my salary to be stopped immediately.

“I am grateful for the confidence reposed in me, and I hope that one day, I will be able to fully utilise my talents for the development of our state.”
