Pelumi Nubi driving from London to Lagos in tears as she is denied entry to Sierra Leone

Pelumi Nubi, the Nigerian travel content creator driving from London to Lagos, says she has been denied entry at the Sierra Leonian border.

In a post via her Instagram page on Tuesday, Pelumi could be seen shedding tears while saying she was “exhausted and tired”.

She disclosed that they do not believe she is “driving from London” and that “right-handed drives” are not allowed in Sierra Leone.

“They said access was denied so close to the finish line and I am facing a tide of challenges that feels relentless. Each border crossing, a battle against multiple red tapes. This time Sierra Leone, they don’t want my ‘right-hand’ drive car to come into their country,” she wrote.

“It feels like every step forward, I’m pushed three steps back. I am quickly reminded that I’m not on a physical journey but a spiritual one too, so turning to prayer when the weight feels too heavy to bear alone. This is a call to all of you, my virtual family, to send your words of hope and encouragement.

“Because, hmm, do I have stories for days? Your support truly means so much to me, and I really hope they let me and the car into Sierra Leone soon. For now we are here waiting for some good news.”

In November, Nubi announced her intention to embark on a solo trip from London to Lagos.

She commenced the trip in a car on January 30.

Pelumi recently announced that she is scheduled to arrive in Lagos on March 23 — after driving for nearly two months.

Nigerian content creator Kuye Adegoke, widely known as Egungun of Lagos, has broken silence after a leaked video that has sparked widespread reactions online.

The viral clip, which has been making rounds on social media, shows Egungun on a video call with an unidentified woman while brushing his teeth.

During the call, the content creator, dressed in shorts, accidentally exposed his private parts.

This incident follows closely on the heels of a revelation by his wife, Pashotah, regarding a blackmail attempt involving her husband’s private videos.

According to Pashotah, a Snapchat user had screen-recorded a video Egungun intended to send to her while he was traveling but inadvertently shared on his Snapchat story.

She had previously defended her husband and their marriage against these blackmail threats, asserting their unity despite the ordeal.

The recent developments have fueled online criticism, with many questioning Egungun’s reputation as a family man and casting doubt on Pashotah’s earlier defense of their relationship.

Unfazed by the backlash, Egungun shared a video on his Instagram page, seemingly brushing off the controversy.

The post features him dancing energetically with a woman in his living room to the hit song Gimme Love by Zlatan and Olamide.

He captioned it, “That’s massive baby but still give me your love baby”

K-pop band NewJeans leaves label over mistreatment

By

Chart-topping K-pop group NewJeans announced Thursday their decision to leave their label ADOR, accusing the company of “mistreatment”.

The news comes two weeks after the girl group sent an ultimatum to ADOR parent company HYBE — behind K-pop sensation BTS — telling the firm they would terminate their contract unless a set of demands was met.

“From midnight today, our contract will be terminated with ADOR,” member Minji said at a press conference.

NewJeans made their debut in 2022 and the K-pop phenomenon is among HYBE’s most successful groups.

Band member Hanni said Thursday the group has “faced mistreatment, not just towards us but also including our staff”, without elaborating.

NewJeans experienced “deliberate miscommunications and manipulation regarding multiple areas”, she said.

“This is not the type of work ethic we respect and not one we want to be a part of, and to continue working under a company with no intention of protecting NewJeans would only do us harm,” said Hanni.

ADOR did not immediately respond to AFP requests to comment on the announcement.

The band members said they would continue with their contractual obligations, but acknowledged they may no longer be able to use the name NewJeans.

“However, that doesn’t mean that we are giving up on the name at all,” said Danielle.

“We will continue to fight for NewJeans. NewJeans never die.”

The group’s demands addressed to HYBE included an apology for a comment by one of the company’s managers, who is accused by NewJeans of bullying, and the immediate reinstatement of their producer Min Hee-jin.

Min resigned last week from ADOR’s board of directors after HYBE accused her of breach of trust, which sparked a sprawling legal and PR battle.

– ‘Predetermined outcome’ –
Industry experts said the decision by NewJeans was expected.

“The contract termination lawsuit itself has been widely anticipated in the market, so today’s press conference, in a way, seems to have a predetermined outcome,” said Lim Soo-jin, an analyst at Daishin Securities.

“Entertainment analysts have generally excluded NewJeans-related projections from next year’s estimates, so the overall impact is not expected to be substantial,” he told AFP.

The hefty fee which NewJeans may have to pay will compensate for “financial loss” at the label, he added.

The K-pop group may have to face a contractual penalty of up to 620 billion won ($440 million) according to legal experts.

The band members, however, disagree.

“We have not breached the exclusive contract and have done our best in our activities so far, so we believe there is no reason for us to pay any penalty,” said band member Haerin.

“On the contrary, it is ADOR and HYBE that violated the contract, leading to this situation, and the responsibility clearly lies with them.”
