Jennifer Lopez files for divorce from Ben Affleck after 2 years of marriage
American singer/actress Jennifer Lopez has officially filed for divorce from her husband, Ben Affleck, after 2 years of marriage.
According to TMZ, Lopez filed for dissolution of their two-year marriage in Los Angeles on August 20, 2024. TMZ also further stated that Lopez listed the date of separation as April 26, 2024, but the petition did not mention any prenuptial agreement.
The date that the divorce was filed coincided with the anniversary of their Georgia-set wedding ceremony in 2022, after they first eloped in Las Vegas.
Their split has now confirmed the divorce rumours that loomed after it became public knowledge that the two had been living separately, that Lopez cancelled her tour and that they put their home up for sale.
Lopez and Affleck first met in 2002 on the set of their movie Gigil, which came out the following year. At the time, Lopez was married to her second husband, Cris Judd. The couple eventually divorced in 2003, and Lopez and Affleck then went public with their romance shortly after.
Both of them had previously been married to other people over the years. Affleck, 52, married Jennifer Garner, with whom he shares three children, in 2005. They divorced in 2018.
Lopez had been married three times before tying the knot with Aflek. She was briefly married to Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998 and to Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003. She and singer Marc Anthony wed in 2004 and were married for a decade, share 14-year-old twins. She then started dating former baseball player Alex Rodriguez in 2017, but the couple called off their engagement in 2021.

‘I had swollen jaw’ — Reno Omokri’s estranged wife alleges domestic violence
Tuokpe Onuwaje, the estranged wife of Reno Omokri, has accused him of domestic violence.
Tuokpe is the first wife of the former media aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan. The couple have three children together.
During the weekend, Omokri shared a picture he took with his second wife Hanna on social media.
The writer described Hanna, who is believed to be from Ethiopia, as “a beauty queen who has devoted her life to God and me”.
Omokri also praised her for being a woman who “does not know how to quarrel and is incapable of malice”.
“I want to praise my wife. I thought spoiling was over for me, then I married my wife and got another mother, a pure met-at-home lover,” he said.
“A woman who does not know how to quarrel. A being of pure joy that radiates unconditional love. Totally devoid of materialism. The only thing she puts before her husband is her God. Every other person, she has queued behind me.”
Today, I want to praise my wife. She is a beauty queen who has devoted her life to God and, after Him, to me. My mother spoiled me. And I thought spoiling was over for me. Then, I married my wife and got another mother, a pure met-at-home lover. A woman who does not know how to… pic.twitter.com/2FXxiLBPmd

Reacting to Omokri’s remarks in an Instagram post on Sunday, Tuokpe alleged that she “tolerated physical abuse” in their marriage.
She also accused him of assault that left her with a “swollen jaw, ruptured eardrums, and weeks of pain”.
“No woman should ever tolerate abuse in a marriage, regardless of how infrequent it might be,” she wrote.
“We often make excuses like wanting to maintain a complete family or staying for the sake of the children. But the truth is, your children deserve better.
“After the first instance of violence, which left me with a swollen jaw and weeks of pain, I made excuses, thinking I must have provoked the anger. I even had to endure seeing my daughter witness another slap.
“And there was the morning I woke up to find blood on my pillow from a ruptured eardrum you caused. The final straw was when you assaulted me again, leading me to involve the police.
“Now you claim to be happily married to a woman who doesn’t “quarrel”. Good luck to her, because you always wanted someone you could control and intimidate.”

5 biggest distractions in relationships
Do you notice that your partner isn’t as committed to the relationship as they used to be?
Your partner may seem distracted and distant. You might have asked what was wrong, but they said nothing. Yet you’ve noticed significant changes.
What could be causing this distraction? Here are the biggest relationship distractions:
1. Technology & social media
Do you find yourself scrolling through social media and laughing at TikTok videos while your partner is right there?
Constantly using social media and gadgets like video games can create a significant rift in a relationship, leaving your partner feeling neglected and distant.
For men, football season can cause a lot of distraction and space in a relationship.
It’s important to disconnect from technology and focus on quality time with your partner.
You could also pick an activity involving technology you both love like sharing reels on Instagram or TiktTok and playing videos games with each other.
2. Work pressure
If your partner is stressed at work or is faced with a lot of pressure, they can withdraw from you.
Balancing a demanding job or career with a relationship can be exhausting, leaving little time or energy for your partner.
Work stress causes tension and affects the quality of time spent together.
3. Friends and an active social life
If you are always hanging out with the ‘boys’ or the ‘girls’, that will barely leave any time for the relationship.
While friendships should not be neglected, putting too much emphasis on social activities outside of the relationship might lead to neglect of your partner.
This might lead to feelings of jealousy or insecurity.
4. A past relationship or a new crush
A recent or past ex can be a major distraction in a relationship.
Whether through past traumas, maintaining contact, or any form of communication, exes can become significant distractions.
If these distractions persist, trust can be eroded, leading to the relationship’s demise.
If they meet someone new who they fancy, they may spend considerable time trying to win their affection, and that just means less time for you.
5. Financial worries
Relationships can be strained due to financial concerns, debt, or money issues.
When one person is worried about their financial situation; it can keep couples from enjoying life and their partner’s companionship.
How to get over the distractions
Prioritize your partner.
It’s important to make time for your partner by scheduling special dates, outings and activities so you can spend quality time with each other.
If these issues arise in a relationship, it’s important to address them openly and make necessary changes.
Failure to do so can lead to the relationship’s downfall.
