Burna Boy becomes African artiste with most Billboard Hot 100 Entries
Grammy-winning Nigerian Afrobeats singer Damini Ogulu, professionally known as Burna Boy, has become the African artiste with the most entries on the Billboard U.S. Hot 100 chart, surpassing fellow Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems.
Prior to this week, Burna Boy and Tems were tied with eight entries each on the prestigious American chart.
He secured his ninth entry through a collaboration with Colombian pop star Shakira on the official FIFA World Cup song, “Dai Dai.” The track debuted at No. 75 on the Billboard Hot 100, breaking the tie and giving Burna Boy the sole ownership of the record for the highest number of entries by any African act.
The song gained immense global momentum following a joint performance by Burna Boy and Shakira during the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup in Mexico.
With this achievement, Tems now holds the second-highest number of Billboard Hot 100 entries among African artistes.
The “Last Last” singer has also established another record as the first African performer to have at least one song appear on the Billboard Hot 100 for six consecutive years.
His historical run on the chart includes “Loved By You” in 2021, “Last Last” in 2022, “Sitting On Top of the World” and “Talibans II” in 2023, “Just Like Me” and “We Pray” in 2024, “WGFT” in 2025, and both “Only You” and “Dai Dai” in 2026.
Additionally, the singer recently reached a new career high on streaming platforms, surpassing 40 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
