2027: Peter Obi supporters won’t trust INEC with votes — Aisha Yesufu

 Political activist and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) member Aisha Yesufu has declared that supporters of presidential candidate Peter Obi will not rely on electoral institutions to safeguard their votes during the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview on Arise  Newsregarding lessons from the 2023 general election, Yesufu stated that Obi’s supporters plan to deploy observers across all polling units and directly monitor the transport of electoral materials through every stage of collation.

“Yes, we are going to have people at every polling unit to protect the votes,” Yesufu stated. “No result sheet will leave our sight. We will follow the results from the polling units all the way to Abuja.”

Expressing skepticism toward key national bodies, Yesufu revealed she retains “zero trust” in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and the judiciary, stressing that vote defense will rely primarily on grassroots mobilization rather than institutional compliance.

Addressing a recent security incident in Benue State where Obi’s convoy was temporarily obstructed, Yesufu defended the candidate’s non-confrontational response, arguing that political  disruption should not derail scheduled public engagements.

Yesufu further criticized the economic record of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, characterizing its policies as a failure and asserting that macro-economic metrics cited by the federal government have failed to alleviate public hardship and security challenges ahead of the 2027 cycle.
