Abuja areas to face six-hour power outage for TCN maintenance
Several parts of Abuja are expected to experience a six-hour interruption in electricity supply as the Transmission Company of Nigeria carries out scheduled maintenance on a major power transformer.
TCN said its engineers will perform preventive maintenance on a 100MVA transformer and associated switchgear at the Central Area GIS 132/33kV Transmission Substation.
The work is scheduled to run from 10am to 4pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
As a result, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to supply electricity to affected customers during the maintenance period.
Areas expected to be affected include Wuse Zones 1–7, the Sheraton Hotel area, Central Business District, Utako, Jabi and surrounding communities.
TCN apologised to customers for the disruption and said the maintenance forms part of routine efforts to improve the reliability of the transmission network.
Power supply is expected to resume after completion of the maintenance exercise, subject to normal system conditions.
