APC chieftain says Wike could pose risk to Tinubu’s 2027 campaign

All Progressives Congress chieftain Farouk Aliyu has expressed concern about the political role of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike ahead of the 2027 presidential election, saying the former Rivers State governor could, in some ways, pose a challenge to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign.

Aliyu made the remarks amid the continuing disagreement between Wike and some APC governors over the FCT minister’s proposed Rainbow Coalition.

The APC Governors’ Forum, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, recently said its members would support APC candidates at all levels and would not participate in political arrangements that could undermine the party’s candidates.

Wike, however, has maintained that his political commitment is specifically to Tinubu’s re-election and does not mean he has agreed to campaign for APC candidates in every state.

The FCT minister, who remains associated with the Peoples Democratic Party, has argued that his Rainbow Coalition is intended to mobilise support for Tinubu across party lines.

He also criticised some APC governors over their opposition to the arrangement.

Reacting during an appearance on Channels Television, Aliyu criticised Wike’s approach to the disagreement and said political power should not be treated as permanent.

He argued that the growing tensions surrounding Wike’s political strategy could create difficulties for Tinubu’s 2027 campaign.

Aliyu’s comments represent his assessment of the political dispute and do not amount to a prediction about the outcome of the 2027 election.
