Gunmen abduct, kill ABU lecturer hours after taking him from farm
A lecturer and researcher at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Dr Iliyasu Abubakar Sadiq, has been killed after being abducted by gunmen from his farm.
Sadiq, who worked with the university’s Division of Agricultural Colleges, was reportedly taken from his farmhouse at Tudun Muntsira, behind ABU’s Samaru Campus.
His wife said armed men arrived at the farm and demanded valuables before taking her husband away after the family told them they had no money to give.
Community members subsequently launched a search for the lecturer.
His body was later found around Karau-Karau village, several hours after the abduction.
Sadiq had previously served as Head of Programme for Pest Management at the Division of Agricultural Colleges and taught courses in agriculture and entomology.
The Director of the division, Prof Bashir Ahmed Babaji, described him as a hardworking and dependable member of staff whose death was a major loss to the university community.
Sadiq reportedly left behind two wives and nine children.
As of the latest report, police had not announced any arrests in connection with the killing
