How to change your phone number or email on JAMB portal
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has introduced a process allowing candidates who have genuinely lost access to the phone number or email address connected to their JAMB profile to update their details.
The development addresses a long-running problem faced by candidates who lose SIM cards, lose access to email accounts or become unable to receive important JAMB messages and access their profiles.
JAMB said the new service is intended specifically for candidates with genuine cases of lost access and is subject to identity and biometric verification.
Candidates should note that the service can only be used once, making it important to provide accurate new contact details during the process.
How to change your JAMB phone number or email
Candidates seeking to update their registered phone number, email address or both can follow these steps:
1. Obtain a court affidavit
Visit a High Court and obtain an affidavit explaining the loss of access to your registered phone number or email address and requesting an update.
The affidavit will be required during the verification process.
2. Log in to your JAMB e-Facility profile
After obtaining the affidavit, access your JAMB e-Facility account.
Candidates should ensure they are using the official JAMB platform and avoid unofficial websites or individuals claiming they can make the change on their behalf.
3. Open the ‘Penalties’ section
From the e-Facility menu, select Penalties.
Under the available options, choose:
SIM Swap/Email Change Penalty Payment.
4. Pay the required fee
Follow the payment instructions on the JAMB portal and pay the prescribed charge for the service.
Candidates should keep evidence of payment and any transaction reference generated by the platform.
5. Visit a designated JAMB centre
After completing the online payment, proceed to a designated JAMB centre to finish the process.
JAMB says the service is available only through approved centres and candidates should avoid unauthorised agents or third parties.
6. Provide your JAMB details
At the centre, candidates will be required to provide identifying information including their existing phone number and JAMB profile code.
These details will be used to locate and verify the candidate’s existing profile.
7. Complete biometric verification
JAMB will conduct biometric verification to confirm that the person requesting the change is the legitimate owner of the profile.
The biometric requirement is part of measures designed to prevent unauthorised changes and identity fraud.
8. Submit the affidavit
A scanned copy of the court affidavit will be uploaded as part of the application.
Candidates should therefore take the original document with them when visiting the designated centre.
Who can use the service?
The process is meant for candidates who have genuinely lost access to the GSM number or email address originally attached to their JAMB profile.
It is not intended simply for candidates who want to change their contact information for convenience.
JAMB also says the update facility can only be accessed once and requires strict identity and biometric checks.
Important warning for candidates
Candidates should use only official JAMB channels and designated centres.
They should not give their profile information, passwords, biometric details or payment information to unauthorised agents claiming they can change JAMB details remotely.
JAMB’s previous registration guidance has stressed the importance of keeping the phone number linked to a candidate’s profile because it serves as a unique identifier for transactions with the board.
The newly announced process therefore provides an option for candidates who genuinely lose access while maintaining additional verification requirements.
