Ronald Koeman announces death of wife Bartina
Former Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has announced the death of his wife, Bartina Koeman.
The Dutch football legend confirmed the loss in an emotional tribute to his wife, describing her as a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.
Bartina was 65.
Barcelona offered condolences to its former manager and his family following the announcement.
The Netherlands national team also expressed its sympathy and offered support to Koeman, his children, grandchildren and other members of the family.
Koeman, 63, is one of the most recognisable figures in Dutch football, having enjoyed a successful playing career before becoming a manager.
He famously scored Barcelona’s winning goal in the 1992 European Cup final against Sampdoria, securing the club’s first European Cup.
His managerial career later included spells with Ajax, Southampton, Everton, Barcelona and the Netherlands national team.
Koeman managed Barcelona between 2020 and 2021.
Bartina and Koeman were married for decades and had three children together.
The family has requested privacy as they mourn her death.
