Tanzania removes Nigeria from referred visa category, eases application process

Tanzania has removed Nigerian nationals from its referred visa category, ending the requirement for Nigerians to obtain additional immigration clearance before being granted visas.

Under the previous arrangement, Nigerian passport holders fell within Tanzania’s referred visa category.

Applicants in that category were subjected to additional immigration clearance, which could make the application process longer than the standard procedure available to many other nationalities.

Following the change, Nigerians can now follow Tanzania’s standard visa application process.
The immigration authorities said Nigerian travellers may submit applications through the country’s official online immigration platform or use designated entry points where applicable.

The decision means Nigerians will no longer have to undergo the additional referred-visa clearance previously required specifically because of their nationality.
However, the development does not mean Nigerians can now travel to Tanzania visa-free.

Travellers must still meet Tanzania’s normal immigration requirements and obtain the appropriate visa where required.
Applications can be made through Tanzania’s official e-Immigration system. The Tanzania High Commission in Abuja also provides consular and visa services. Tanzania Embassy

The policy change could make travel to Tanzania easier for Nigerians travelling for tourism, business and other approved purposes.
