Tottenham boss De Zerbi leaves Richarlison out of squad amid club dispute
Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that Brazilian forward Richarlison will not feature in the club’s Carabao Cup clash against Liverpool amid an ongoing dispute involving the player and the club.
Richarlison had already been left out of Tottenham’s 25-man Premier League squad submitted earlier this month after being informed that he was not part of the club’s first-team plans.
Although the former Everton forward remains eligible to play in the Carabao Cup, De Zerbi confirmed that he would not be selected for the Liverpool fixture.
The development follows a difficult period between Richarlison and Tottenham.
According to De Zerbi, he spoke to the Brazilian several times at the beginning of the season in an effort to convince him to remain at the club.
The coach said a contract extension was proposed, but Richarlison declined the offer.
De Zerbi stressed that the matter had now moved beyond his responsibility as head coach, describing the outstanding issue as one between the player and the club.
Richarlison also reportedly turned down a potential move to Brazilian club Vasco da Gama.
The 29-year-old joined Tottenham from Everton in 2022 and has experienced mixed fortunes during his time in North London.
His exclusion adds further uncertainty over his future at the club.
