Umahi says Peter Obi cannot win 2027 presidential election
Minister of Works David Umahi has said he does not believe Peter Obi can win Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, while urging South-East leaders to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
Umahi made the remarks in Abuja while receiving a report from the National Association of Nigerian Students on its nationwide inspection of federal road projects.
The minister said political leaders in the South-East should communicate what he described as the achievements of the Tinubu administration in the region.
He argued that increased awareness of the administration’s projects and policies would reduce support for Obi.
Umahi also praised Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo for supporting Tinubu and said people should be free to support the President without facing insults over their political choices.
Obi is the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress for the January 2027 election, while Tinubu is seeking re-election on the All Progressives Congress platform.
Umahi and Obi have previously disagreed publicly over political and governance issues, including the records of South-East political leaders.
Umahi’s latest statement represents his assessment of the coming election rather than an established indication of its eventual outcome.
