Trump publicly shares purported phone number of Senator Tom Cotton amid daylight-saving dispute
US President Donald Trump has publicly shared what he said was Republican Senator Tom Cotton’s phone number while pressuring lawmakers to support permanent daylight saving time.
Trump posted the purported number on Truth Social as he criticised Cotton for opposing the Sunshine Protection Act.
The proposed legislation would end the twice-yearly clock changes in the United States by making daylight saving time permanent. Reuters
Trump urged supporters in Arkansas to contact Cotton and push him to back the bill.
The President argues that later sunsets would give Americans more usable daylight in the evening and says the policy could benefit recreation, businesses and public safety.
The Arkansas senator has argued that permanent daylight saving time would result in very late winter sunrises in some parts of the country, potentially forcing children to travel to school before daylight.
The dispute reflects a wider disagreement in the United States over whether to stop changing clocks twice a year and, if so, whether the country should adopt permanent daylight saving time or permanent standard time.
Trump has previously disclosed the telephone number of a fellow Republican politician during a dispute, having done so with Senator Lindsey Graham during an earlier political feud.
BodexNG should not republish Cotton’s phone number, even though Trump placed it online. The existence of the disclosure is sufficient for the story.
