Debbie Nelson, the mother of United States rapper Eminem, has died at age 69.

Eminem’s spokesperson confirmed Nelson’s demise on Tuesday. The rapper’s representative said she died on Monday night in St. Joseph, Missouri after battling with lung cancer for many years.

However, Eminem has not publicly commented on his mother’s death.

Nelson gained public recognition through Eminem’s song lyrics, which highlighted their turbulent relationship.

The rapper spotlighted their rocky relationship for several years in songs including ‘My Name Is’, ‘Headlights’ and ‘Cleanin’ Out my Closet’.

Nelson filed a $10 million lawsuit against Eminem, born Marshall Mathers, for defamation and emotional distress.

She had cited 25 remarks he had made in various interviews accusing her of drug abuse and violent behavior during his upbringing.

However, the rapper revealed the suit was later settled out of court in his song ‘Without Me’.

In 2008, Nelson published a memoir, ‘My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem,’ with the subtitle “Setting the record straight on my life as Eminem’s mother”.

She provided details about the rapper’s early life, the good times they had while asserting that Eminem still loves her but “just confused”.

“In my heart I know Marshall still loves me. He’s just confused,” she wrote.
