Mother arrested in Anambra over alleged abuse of seven-year-old daughter with hot knife

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old woman, Ogechi Ofoma, following allegations that she severely abused her seven-year-old daughter in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

The child, identified as Oluebube Ofoma, was rescued on Sunday, September 13, after security personnel from Ibollo Community, Awada-Obosi, and concerned residents intervened.

Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the command received a report concerning alleged child abuse and serious bodily injuries involving the girl.

Preliminary information available to the police indicated that the child had allegedly suffered severe physical abuse, including injuries said to have been inflicted with a hot knife.

Following the intervention of community security personnel and residents, the girl was taken away from further danger while her mother was arrested.

Ikenga said police had commenced an investigation into the incident and assured that the case would be handled thoroughly and professionally.

He added that the welfare, safety and best interests of the child would remain a priority as the investigation continues.
