Five suspected terrorists arrested after Igbeti attack, Oyo govt says
The Oyo State Government has announced the arrest of five suspected terrorists following an attack on a military camp on the outskirts of Igbeti in Olorunsogo Local Government Area.
Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal disclosed the arrests during a visit to the scene of the attack.
According to the state government, the five suspects were arrested wearing military uniforms, while security personnel are continuing efforts to track other suspected attackers.
At least 120 soldiers have reportedly been deployed into surrounding areas as part of the operation.
The attack occurred at a security facility along the Igbeti-Igboho axis.
Authorities said grenade launchers used during the assault triggered a fire after cooking-gas cylinders at the facility were ignited.
The Oyo State Government has also established an emergency committee involving five neighbouring local government areas to support security operations.
The affected councils include Olorunsogo, Oriire, Saki East, Orelope and Irepo.
Lawal assured residents of Igbeti and other communities in the Oke-Ogun area that the state government would continue working with security agencies to protect lives and property.
Authorities said further arrests were expected as security operations continued.
