Labour Party disowns Arabambi over Peter Obi credential lawsuit

The Labour Party has distanced itself from Abayomi Arabambi following reports describing him as a party chieftain in connection with lawsuits seeking access to Peter Obi’s academic and service records.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, said Arabambi is no longer a member of the Labour Party.

Arabambi recently filed separate suits at the Federal High Court in Abuja against the West African Examinations Council, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and the National Youth Service Corps.

The suits seek court orders compelling the institutions to release official records relating to certificates and records associated with Obi.

Arabambi filed the cases under the Freedom of Information Act, alleging that the institutions failed or refused to respond to requests for information.

However, the Labour Party said Arabambi should no longer be described as one of its chieftains.

According to Asogwa, Arabambi was among members suspended by the party’s National Executive Council in March 2026 over alleged anti-party activities, with the decision subsequently ratified at the party’s national convention.

The party said it would not comment on the substance of Arabambi’s court cases.

It also noted that Obi himself is no longer a member of the Labour Party.

The legal actions remain before the Federal High Court.
