Tinubu, Atiku, Keyamo, Nollywood stars mourn Olu Jacobs

Tributes have continued to pour in for veteran Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs following his death at the age of 84.

President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister Festus Keyamo and several leading Nigerian entertainers have paid tribute to the celebrated actor.

Jacobs’ family announced his death on Wednesday, September 16, describing him as the “Lion of Lufodo” and asking the public to respect the family’s privacy.

President Tinubu described Jacobs as one of Nigeria’s most distinguished actors and praised his contribution to the development and professionalisation of the Nigerian entertainment industry.

The President said the actor inspired generations of performers and filmmakers through his discipline and dedication to his craft.

Atiku also paid tribute to Jacobs, describing him as a cultural figure whose work helped shape Nigeria’s creative industry.

Keyamo praised the late actor’s professionalism and contribution to Nigerian theatre and film.

Within Nollywood, actors and entertainers including Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, Broda Shaggi, Williams Uchemba and several others also shared tributes.

Many reflected on Jacobs’ influence on younger actors and his contribution to the growth of Nollywood.

Jacobs enjoyed a career spanning more than five decades across British theatre and television, international cinema and Nigerian film.

He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before eventually becoming one of Nollywood’s most recognisable and respected veterans.

Jacobs is survived by his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, their children and grandchildren.
