Madagascar arrive in Uyo ahead of Super Eagles AFCON qualifier
Madagascar’s national football team have arrived in Uyo ahead of their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clash against Nigeria.
The Barea, led by head coach Corentin Martins, arrived in Nigeria before proceeding to Akwa Ibom for preparations ahead of Friday’s encounter with the Super Eagles.
A delegation of players and officials travelled to Uyo as Madagascar moved early to settle in ahead of the Group L fixture.
Madagascar are seeking a return to the Africa Cup of Nations after making their tournament debut in 2019.
Their first AFCON appearance included a memorable 2-0 group-stage victory over Nigeria before they eventually reached the quarter-finals.
Nigeria, meanwhile, have opened camp in Akwa Ibom, with head coach Eric Chelle and members of his technical team already in the state.
Players including Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi and Arthur Okonkwo are among those reporting for preparations.
The Super Eagles will be without injured striker Victor Osimhen, with Taiwo Awoniyi drafted into the squad as his replacement.
Nigeria face Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on September 25 before travelling to meet Guinea-Bissau four days later
