Osun Assembly considers bill to regulate motor parks and revenue collection

The Osun State House of Assembly is considering legislation to establish a formal Park Management System across the state.

The proposed Osun State Park Management System Bill seeks to regulate motor park operations, revenue collection, ticketing and safety.

The private member’s bill was presented by House Committee on Works and Transport Chairman Abiola Waheed and has passed second reading.

Waheed said the proposal would create a structured management system for parks while addressing revenue leakages.

The bill also proposes digitalisation of ticketing and measures aimed at preventing thuggery and violent activities in motor parks.

Lawmakers supporting the proposal said a regulated system could improve accountability, protect passengers and drivers from extortion and increase internally generated revenue.

The bill follows an earlier directive by Governor Ademola Adeleke ordering warring groups to vacate affected motor parks following violence connected with a leadership dispute.

Adeleke also announced plans to reintroduce a Park Management System as part of measures to restore order.

The legislation has not yet become law and will still have to complete the remaining stages of the legislative process.
