The 2026 CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations gets underway in Rabat, Morocco, on Monday as eight teams compete for the continental title.
The tournament runs from October 12 to October 21, with defending champions and hosts Morocco seeking a fourth consecutive title.
Libya and Zambia open the competition at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Hall before Morocco face Algeria in a North African derby later on Monday.
Eight countries battle for African futsal title
The participating teams are divided into two groups.
Group A: Morocco, Libya, Zambia and Algeria.
Group B: Egypt, Angola, Mozambique and Tanzania.
Morocco enter as the dominant force in African futsal after winning the previous three editions in 2016, 2020 and 2024.
Head coach Hicham Dguig’s team will attempt to lift the trophy for a fourth successive time, with experienced players including Soufiane El Mesrar, Soufiane Borite and Soufiane Charraoui among those expected to play important roles.
Libya, champions in 2008, also enter with strong tournament history after finishing third at the 2024 edition.
Egypt targets fourth title
Egypt will begin Group B as another of the competition’s most successful nations.
The North Africans won the first three editions of the tournament in 1996, 2000 and 2004 and will be seeking a fourth crown.
They will compete against Angola, Mozambique and Tanzania for places in the knockout stage.
CAF says all 16 matches at the tournament will be available globally through its official CAF TV platform.
Unlike some previous editions, the 2026 Futsal AFCON will not serve as a qualifier for the FIFA Futsal World Cup.
