Okafor's Law

‘Okafor’s Law’, newly released romantic comedy movie, has been causing a buzz among Cinema lovers in the Federal Capital Territory, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Mr Emmanuel David, a staff of Silverbird Cinema who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday said since its debut on March 31, Okafor’s Law has been “causing traffic at cinema” located at the Central Business District of the city.

“People have been trooping to watch the movie while tickets are sold out daily.”

He said the ticket costs one thousand five hundred naira at the weekends while it sells for one thousand on week days per viewer.

He attributed the popularity of the film to the `drama and controversy’ it generated before its premiere.

The producers of the movie had claimed to have spent 100 million naira in branding, advertising and planning of the premiere which was cancelled on March 24, as a result of a court injunction stopping its premiere.

They also claimed the loss of 200 million naira earning or revenue from the cancelled premiere, including revenue from seat bookings, ticket sales and advert placement.

Some of the viewers who spoke to NAN at the cinema commended the actors in the movie for their sterling performances.

According to Sheila Ogun, a student of the University of Abuja, she fell in love with Ufuoma McDermot’s (IFY) character.

“I have always heard about Okafor’s law on campus and it did not really `click’ in my head, but watching these actors bring it to life was humourous but also educative.. I am well informed now,” Sheila said.

Also, Zainab Sani who was full of smile said the movie was fun to watch.

“I wish there will be a part two; it was worth my money and time watching the movie,” She said.

Reacting to the turnouts, Mrs Omoni Oboli, Producer and Director said the turnout has been very impressive
“Actors in Okafor’s law have been visiting the cinemas at different locations, and we have all been surprised at the reception from fans all over the country.

Truth be told, the tickets have been sold out everywhere we went, and we just want this to continue for as long as possible. I am grateful to God for His blessings.”

The movie is showing at different cinemas in Lagos, Kano, Ilorin, Benin, Uyo, Warri, Owerri, Port Harcourt, Asaba, Calabar, Ibadan, and Akure.
NAN reports that Okafor’s Law is a 2016 Nigerian romantic comedy film written and directed by Oboli.

‘Okafor’s Law’ which is named after a sexist theory is a movie with social consciousness.

It follows the story of a slick serial seducer, Chuks (Blossom Chukwujekwu), nicknamed Terminator, an “ardent player” who believes that once a man has been with a woman, he forever has access to her.

When challenged by his friends to see if he can prove the universality of that stupid theory with three ex-girlfriends Ify (Ufuoma McDermott), Tomi (Toyin Abraham) and Ejiro (Omoni Oboli), whose lives have drastically changed. And this must be done within 21 days.

This challenge of their various new statuses makes his quest to win the bet more and more insurmountable as he tries to prove the immortality of the long age law: Okafor’s Law.

The film stars Blossom Chukwujekwu, Omoni Oboli, Toyin Aimakhu, Gabriel Afolayan, Ufuoma McDermott, Richard Mofe Damijo, Tina Mba, Kemi Lala Akindoju and Ken Erics.

Mayorkun, the singer, has demanded N1 billion in damages from popular TikToker Nickie Dabarbie for alleging he is a “ritualist”.

Earlier on Friday, Nickie, born Precious Kingsley, alleged that “Mayorkun and some other Nigerian artistes are all ritualists”.

In a series of posts via her Instagram page, she claimed that she had “escaped from being used for rituals” by Skiibii.

She narrated how the singer invited her to his house for a boat cruise and “forced” her to take “alcohol before trying to kill me”.

The TikToker also shared a video of deep cuts to her hand being stitched together, claiming it was a result of the attack by Skiibii.

But in a letter from his legal representative, Mayorkun described Nickie’s allegations as “baseless, bizarre and untrue”.

He also demanded that the TikToker issue a retraction and public apology on all social media platforms and two national dailies within 24 hours.

The singer also requested the lady to pay N1 billion as “damages for emotional trauma, loss of endorsement”.

The letter added that the demands must be met in 48 hours.

“Our client’s attention has been drawn to your online post in the early hours of 19th day of April 2024 made via your Instagram wherein you categorically labeled our client as a ritualist,” the letter reads in part

“First and foremost, our client denies all allegations made as they are baseless, bizarre and untrue. We are also aware that our client has neither met with you privately nor had any personal dealings/ relationship with you which further buttresses our assertion that your statements are unfounded and frivolous.

“We hereby demand that you immediately adhere to the following conjunctively. That you take down the offensive publication on all of your social media accounts within 24 hours of receipt of the letter. That you will accompany the retraction of the offensive publication with a video and written apology in two national newspapers.

“That you henceforth desist from engaging in any acts written and/or verbal which are defamatory, slanderous towards our clients. That you pay our client a sum of not less than 1 billion Naira as a damages fee for all the emotional trauma, loss of endorsements and cost of engaging legal counsel.

“Take further notice, that you should you fail to adhere to our demands herein within 48 hours with the exception of the takedown of the offensive publication which must be done within 24 hours.”

The development comes a few hours after Skiibii said that he had “reported the case to the police for a thorough investigation”.

Nickie dabarbie calls out Skiibii for attempting to use her for money rituals

Nigerians have been left in confusion as popular social media influencer Precious Kingsley, popularly known as Nicki dabarbie uploaded a concerning video on her Instagram page.

In the video she posted, Nickie dabarbie was clearly distraught, and she kept on saying that the men in the video wanted to use her for money rituals. The name she kept chanting throughout the video was Skiibii, and she said the whole ‘Mayana’ family was doing money rituals, and that is how they got money to buy cars.

If there was any doubt as to whether it was the singer Skiibii she was referring to, the name ‘Mayana’ is a clear indication that she was referring to him because it is a slogan that he uses a lot.

Although the video wasn’t very clear, if you look closely, you can see that the room she was making the video from was in complete disarray.

There were shards of broken glass all over the floor, and at some point in the video, you could hear one of the men asking her why she’s stepping on broken glass.

One of the men in the video kept on asking ‘which kain highness be this’, thereby insinuating that she was intoxicated. He also asked her to leave and go home, insinuating that she was not in her house in the first place.

Throughout the video, Nickie dabarbie kept on chanting names of girls that were allegedly used for rituals by a man named Skibbi. She said that her ‘head was too strong’, and that is why they were not able to use her for rituals.

One of the men approached Nicki dabarbie with a bottle of water in hand, and she immediately screamed hysterically that he shouldn’t pour the water on her.

The video ended with Nicki dabarbie praying furiously and screaming out her lungs.

Skiibii hasn’t responded to the allegations laid against him by the influencer, and it still isn’t clear whether he was in the video because it was a bit hazy.

This isn’t the first time Nickie dabarbie is being involved in drama, as not too long ago, she was involved in a fight with fellow influencer Cute Gemini.

Their fight got so serious that Nickie dabarbie was arrested and spent a few days in prison. When she got out, her fans hailed her for being strong, while they rained curses on Cute Gemini.

She also inquired if the Nigerian songstress has a project with Tems, her colleague.
