Multimedia personality, Toke Makinwa, has wowed fans with an act of benevolence as she is offering four lucky winners a sum of three million Naira.

Tagged #Imusthavemyown, Toke says the giveaway is her own way of saying thank you to her loyal supporters.

The On Becoming author made this known via Instagram, expressing her excitement over how she believes the project ‘OnBecomingEmpowered’ would touch lives.

To stand a chance of winning the cash, participants are required to record and upload a one-minute video in which they are expected to pitch a creative business idea and state how the grant would help the business.

Giving her life as an example, she also pointed out the fact that life has so many uncertainties and many people are currently in need. However, with creative ideas, a positive mental attitude and financial support, she believes people can become “some more”.

While Toke has had a fair share of life’s hard knocks, (losing her parents at a tender age of eight and having to go through a painful divorce at 30), one can say she has managed to rise above her struggles.

From her career as a Nigerian radio personality to a television host, vlogger, recently a bestselling author and her buzzing social media presence, she has succeeded in building a much-admired personality and much more over the years.

Simi, the Nigerian singer and songwriter, says she did not want to write ‘Joromi‘, her 2017 hit single.

‘Joromi’ is the fifth track off ‘Simisola’, the singer’s second studio album, and remains one of her biggest songs to date.

In an interview with CNN Africa, the 36-year-old disclosed that she is sometimes forced to write songs even when she does not have “any inspiration”.

She described ‘Joromi’ as a “deadline song”, adding that she was “irritated” while writing it.

“Sometimes I do not have any inspiration but I have a deadline. I do not really like those because it is like you have to force it to come and I am not crazy about those,” she said.

“But I have made like really great songs from those, ‘Joromi’ was one of those. ‘Joromi’ was a deadline song. I was even done. They sent me a beat and I was like I am done writing but they said this beat and I was like okay.

“I wrote like five different songs on that piece that I did not like them and ‘Joromi’ came and that was like the deadline song. I did not even want to write the song, I was just irritated but I am glad that I did.”

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has announced a four-day fasting and prayer session with Jerry Eze, the Streams of Joy International founder, against deaths in Nollywood.

In an Instagram post on Monday, Emeka Rollas, AGN president, shared an e-flier of the event themed: ‘Clearing the cloud of darkness over Nollywood’.

Rollas said “actors cannot continue to die like chickens,” adding that prayers are needed to avert more deaths in the industry.

He urged Nollywood actors and their supporters to join the programme to “deal with this ugly reproach”.

The prayer session is scheduled will be held at the M & M Center in Garki, Abuja from May 2 to 5.

“In view of the recent passing of our two veteran members and the devastating tragic boat mishap that claimed the lives of five active practitioners including Jnr Pope in Asaba, we have decided to seek divine intervention in fasting and prayers to avert similar occurrence in the future,” he said.

“Join us on the Alter of Fire from 2nd May to 5th may 2024 for prayers and declarations to deal with this ugly reproach. Actors cannot continue to die like chickens.

“Let us reclaim our spiritual airways and highways that seem to have been hijacked by certain powers. Other members of the Nollywood are free to join in this programme.

“I appeal to all NSPDians all over the world and all lovers of actors of Nollywood to join us in this programme.”

Since January 2024, Nollywood has lost more than eight actors including Mr Ibu, Amaechi Muonagor, Junior Pope, and Sisi Quadri.

Others who lost their lives include Olofa Ina, Adejumoke Aderounmu, Saratu Gidado, and Ethel Ekpe.
