Governor Otu declares today and tomorrow public holidays for Cross River LG polls
Bassey Otu, governor of Cross River, has declared Thursday and Friday public holidays ahead of the LG elections in the state.
Nsa Gill, the chief press secretary (CPS) to the governor, said in a statement on Wednesday that the break will enable residents travel to their various voting units.
The election is slated for November 2 across the 18 LGAs of the state.
He urged the residents to utilise the break and engage in electoral process to make their voices heard.
“In a bid to ensure full participation of all Cross Riverians in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for November 2nd, His Excellency, the governor, senator Prince Bassey Otu has declared Thursday, October 31, and Friday, November 1, 2024, as public holidays across the state,” the statement reads.
“Governor Otu said the decision is to allow ample time for those who have to travel from Calabar to various parts of the state, particularly those in far-flung areas, who have to exercise their civic duty and vote in the election.
“The governor added that it is imperative that every citizen participates actively.”
