Organisers of the Headies Awards have announced the postponement of the 18th edition of the Nigerian music awards ceremony to April 10 and 11, 2027, in Toronto, Canada.

The event was originally scheduled for October 23, 2026, before organisers confirmed the revised dates as part of plans to expand the awards programme across Nigeria and Canada.

In an official announcement, the organisers explained that the adjustment would allow for additional industry engagements, creative collaborations and business opportunities ahead of the main ceremony.

Organisers expand Nigeria–Canada activities

The 18th edition, themed “Africa to the World,” is expected to bring together Nigerian and international music industry stakeholders in a celebration of African music and creative achievement.

According to the organisers, activities under the Road to the Headies initiative will continue during the period initially reserved for the awards ceremony.

These engagements will include workshops, seminars and other programmes intended to connect artists, nominees and industry professionals.

The expanded programme will also feature the Headies Global Trade & Investment Summit, designed to encourage connections between the creative industry, investors and business leaders.

Headies apologises to guests

The organisers acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the postponement, particularly for guests who had already made travel arrangements for the October event.

They apologised to affected participants and promised further updates on the revised programme.

Established in 2006, the Headies has become one of Nigeria’s prominent music awards platforms, recognising achievements by artists, producers and other professionals in the music industry.

The Toronto finale will now take place over two days in April 2027, continuing the organisers’ efforts to connect Nigerian music with international audiences.
