American actor RJ Mitte, best known for portraying Walter White Jr. in the critically acclaimed television series Breaking Bad, has died at the age of 34.

Mitte died on Monday, October 12, 2026, in Brownsville, Texas, according to reports confirmed by his representative.

His publicist confirmed to Reuters that the actor died by suicide, prompting an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, fans and disability rights organisations.

Bryan Cranston mourns former co-star

Bryan Cranston, who portrayed Walter White in Breaking Bad, paid an emotional tribute to Mitte on Instagram.

Cranston recalled meeting the young actor when he was just 14 and watching him develop into a talented performer throughout their years working together.

He expressed sadness over Mitte’s death and praised his determination, professionalism and contributions to the entertainment industry.

Mitte portrayed Walter White Jr., also known as Flynn, throughout the acclaimed AMC drama, which ran from 2008 to 2013.

His performance earned recognition for its authenticity, particularly because the actor lived with cerebral palsy, a condition also portrayed by his character.

Actor remembered for disability advocacy

Beyond his acting career, Mitte was widely recognised for promoting disability awareness and inclusion in the entertainment industry.

He worked with organisations including United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, using his public profile to encourage opportunities for people with disabilities.

He also established the Mitte Foundation to support charitable initiatives and community development.

Mitte appeared in other film and television productions, including Switched at Birth, Triumph and Standing Up for Sunny.

His representative, Sean Reilly, remembered him as an actor and philanthropist whose work helped challenge stereotypes surrounding disability.

Tributes have continued to emerge from fans and colleagues remembering his contributions to television and disability representation.
