13-year-old with IQ of 168 accepted into NYU master’s programme
A 13-year-old boy from Long Island, New York, has been accepted into a master’s programme at New York University after completing a series of academic milestones at an unusually young age.
Joe Petraro-Hyppolite, who says he has an IQ of 168, is currently completing his undergraduate studies and is expected to graduate in May 2027.
He is then expected to begin a master’s programme at NYU focusing on sports management, with academic interests also extending to kinesiology and biology.
Petraro-Hyppolite scored 1,590 out of 1,600 on the SAT when he was 10 years old.
He also obtained his high school diploma at the age of 11 and has studied at Louisiana State University alongside students considerably older than him.
Despite his unusual academic progress, the teenager said he still has to study and learn new material rather than automatically knowing everything.
He admitted that he feels some nervousness about beginning postgraduate studies but said he is also excited about the opportunities ahead.
Outside academics, Petraro-Hyppolite participates in community volunteer work.
He has also expressed a long-term interest in palaeontology.
If his academic plans proceed as expected, he could complete his master’s degree at an age when many teenagers are only beginning to prepare for university
